About M.Sc. Horticulture
The Master of Science in Horticulture programme offers students with advanced knowledge, skills, and research experience in horticultural science and practice, enabling them to pursue careers in horticultural fields such as ornamental plant production, landscaping, nursery management, fruit and vegetable production, research institutions, extension services, and education.. Through interdisciplinary studies and hands-on training, students explore innovative methods in fruit and vegetable production, landscaping, and urban farming. Expert faculty and state-of-the-art facilities ensure a holistic understanding of horticulture’s role in environmental conservation and food security. It grants students the skills and knowledge required to tackle challenging horticultural opportunities and challenges and have a positive impact on food security, environmental stewardship, and sustainable plant production.
Program Outcome:
- Transfer knowledge of Horticulture in the field of agricultural research especially in horticulture including fruits, vegetables, flowers, spices, medicinal and aromatic plants and their management.
- Develop innovative agro- techniques to enhance the production and productivity of horticultural crops.
- Increase farmers’ income through adopting hi-tech horticulture.
- Create job opportunities for the unemployed youths through teaching, research, training, extension , especially for the development of socially and economically depressed segment of society.
- Establishment of models nurseries in rural areas for availability of quality planting materials.
- Conservation and exploitation of biological diversity through crop management.
- Prolong the post harvest storage life of horticultural commodities and increase income through value addition of the products and to reduce post harvest losses.
